Wellhead Field Play Area Improvements

Design brief

Aim

To create a fun and challenging environment that will allow children of different ages to play together and promote health, wellbeing and imaginative play. The Wellhead Field play area should be a destination that families want to come and visit again and again. The play area should compliment the beautiful Wellhead Park in which it sits and draw inspiration from nature. The Wellhead is the site of an old castle and this should be used as the theme for the park.

Ages of children the park should cater for:

  • 2-5 years
  • 6-11 years
  • 12-16 years

Skills we want children to use:

  • Imagination
  • Balancing
  • Swinging
  • Climbing
  • Sliding
  • Spinning
  • Ball skills

Key things we would like to include:

  • Safety and weather proof surface throughout
  • Shaded seating / picnic area
  • Access and provision for disabled children
  • Provision for teenagers (larger swings/ ball court/ social area)

Other considerations:

  • Fencing and bins
  • Vandal and dog proofing
  • Cost of removing current equipment and suitability of re-using some equipment
  • Ease of maintenance / future proofing include a 3 year maintenance plan

Parks people have said they like:

  • John Eve Field, Market Deeping (opposite Tesco)
  • Stamford Recreation Ground (The Rec), Stamford
  • Jesus Green, Cambridge
  • Ferry Meadows, Peterborough

Budget:

A number of local charities have pledged their support along with the South Kesteven District Council. This will be complimented by the fundraising efforts of Bourne2Play.
